30TH SEPTEMBER – 6TH OCTOBER 2019
BERKELEY SQUARE, LONDON W1
PABLO PICASSO / MARC CHAGALL / MANOLO VALDES / FRED EERDEKENS / PIERRE SOULAGES / JEAN DUBUFFET / FERNAND LEGER / GEORG BASELITZ / JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT / ALEXANDER CALDER
Opera Gallery will return to PAD London as one of the few exhibiting fine art galleries. The only event of its kind, PAD is the best place to discover and acquire pieces of museum quality art with a distinct history. Opera Gallery will offer the finest French and Spanish domestic art as they re-create PAD’s boutique setting that is designed to inspire collectors, art consultants, museum experts, interiors specialists, design practitioners and the public alike.
As part of London’s leading fair for 20th Century art, design and decorative arts, Opera Gallery’s booth will be curated by Federica Beretta, Director of Opera Gallery, to present an impressive selection of luxury works that celebrate how art and design can create and transform the most extraordinary interiors.
Earlier this year, Opera Gallery revealed the brand-new public sculpture ‘Butterflies’ by Manolo Valdes in Berkeley Square that visitors to PAD can enjoy as they make their way into the fair. This colossal sculpture, weighing over five tonnes, places Opera Gallery as the must-see gallery at PAD as they return for the second time to their very own Borough of art and design.
Artworks will range from 20th Century masters such as Pablo Picasso and Marc Chagall to the Henry Moore of Spain Manolo Valdes, and Belgium’s most celebrated contemporary artist Fred Eerdekens’ with his light source artworks that bring the vivacity to the heart of London’s Mayfair.
Alongside intricate drawings from the 80s by Georg Baselitz and Jean-Michel Basquiat, one of this year’s highlights in Opera Gallery’s display at PAD is Fred Eerdekens’ elegant sculptural shadow art which are contemporary manipulations of form, language and light. Using shadow and light as ink and paper, his metal work is composed of single word or short sentence, of which the meaning projects in the space surrounding the object. Eerdeken sculpts the abstract undulating, angular forms that, once in the light, reveal a word or a sentence.
With prices ranging from £27,800 to £2million, Opera Gallery’s wonderfully versatile selection of works truly embody their position as the leading experts of global contemporary and modern art.
Federica Beretta, Director of Opera Gallery London, said: “This year, Opera Gallery have celebrated 25 years and we are thrilled to be welcomed back for the second time at PAD London on the same site where we installed the colossal “Butterflies” sculpture by Spanish artist Manolo Valdes. Just around the corner from our gallery space on New Bond Street, Mayfair is our very own borough of art and design. Our specially curated boutique approach will showcase a selection of high-quality works as we seek to revitalise the classic masterpieces by offering a diverse range of the best domestic art from across the globe.”
Opera Gallery’s participation at PAD London will preview a selection of new works that will form part of the brand-new solo show for Manolo Valdes which will open at the New Bond Street gallery space from 24th October – 15th November 2019.
